NIHB Benefits
The Non-Insured Health Benefits (NIHB) program provides eligible First Nations and Inuit clients in Canada with coverage for medically necessary health benefits not covered by other insurance plans or provincial/territorial health programs. These benefits aim to enhance access to essential healthcare services and products, ensuring better health outcomes for Indigenous communities that address various mental health challenges, including the profound impacts of intergenerational trauma, such as those stemming from residential school experiences.
At the Centre for Psychodynamic Insights, we are committed to supporting the mental health and well-being of all individuals. We recognize that societal pressures, cultural expectations, and unique personal challenges can impact everyone, regardless of gender or background. Our approach is rooted in creating a safe and inclusive space where anyone can openly discuss their concerns and work toward improved mental health through tailored, compassionate care. Our therapy practice is honoured to be an approved provider under the NIHB program, ensuring eligible clients can access mental health services without financial barriers. We are dedicated to making our services accessible and effective for all who qualify, supporting mental health and well-being in a respectful and inclusive manner.
Each eligible client receives up to 22 sessions per year with an option to request more.

Special Arrangements:
Some benefits are administered by Indigenous governments or organizations, such as the First Nations Health Authority in BC or the Bigstone Cree Nation in Alberta.
Clients in these communities should contact their local health authority for benefit management details.
Working with Partners:
The program collaborates with First Nations and Inuit organizations to improve services, share information, and incorporate feedback.
Indigenous Services Canada works jointly with the Assembly of First Nations to review and enhance the NIHB program.
Appeals:
Clients can appeal denied coverage decisions by submitting a written request.
There are three levels of appeal, each involving a separate review process by program officials and health professionals.
The NIHB program ensures that Indigenous clients have access to critical health supports while minimizing financial barriers. For more details or assistance, eligible clients can contact their NIHB regional office or service providers.
